Get My Lawyer Today — Privacy Policy
Last updated: August 27, 2026
Get My Lawyer Today ("we") is an advertising platform that connects people who describe a legal problem with law firms that pay to receive those requests. We are not a law firm, not a lawyer referral service, and we do not provide legal advice. What you share with us is not protected by attorney–client privilege.
What we collect
- Contact details: your name, phone number, and email if you provide one, plus how and when you prefer to be contacted.
- Your description of the situation: what you tell us in the intake conversation, including the answers to our questions. If you contact us about someone else (for example, a family member), we record both your contact details and the name of the person the matter concerns.
- Consent records: each time you agree to something — such as permitting law firms to contact you, or receiving text messages — we record the exact text you saw, its version, the time, your IP address, and your browser or device details.
- Technical basics: IP address, browser, and device information for security and record-keeping. Inside the intake conversation itself we run no third-party advertising trackers; pages elsewhere on the site may use first-party analytics to understand how people find us.
How we use it
- To share with law firms — this is the service. After personal details are removed, a short summary of your situation is shown to law firms that handle that kind of matter in your area. Firms that purchase your request receive your full description and contact details so they can reach out. Firms that contact you are advertisers who paid to receive your information; they are not recommended, endorsed, ranked, or vetted by us.
- To verify and reach you: a one-time code to confirm your phone number, a sign-in link for your case page, brief check-ins, and — if you left an intake unfinished — at most two reminders. See our [SMS Program Terms](/sms-terms).
- To operate the platform: fraud prevention, record-keeping, and legal compliance, including Do-Not-Call registry checks before your contact details are released to any firm.
Selling your information to law firms is the service, and under many state privacy laws it is a "sale" of personal information. We say that plainly rather than around it: when a law firm purchases your request, we receive payment and the firm receives your description and contact details. That is the one kind of sale we make. We do not sell your information to data brokers, use it for third-party advertising, or share your story with anyone other than the purchasing firms and the service providers who run our infrastructure (hosting, messaging delivery, payments) under contractual confidentiality. You can opt out of the sale at any time — stopping your request or withdrawing your permission (below) ends it immediately.
Your controls
All of these are available from your case page (we text you a secure sign-in link — no password needed) at any time:
- Stop sharing: tell us you hired a lawyer or no longer need help, and your request stops being shown or sold immediately.
- Withdraw permission: revoke your consent to be contacted. We stop sharing immediately, and every firm that already purchased your request is notified to cease contact.
- Change contact preferences: how and when firms may reach you.
- Stop texts: reply STOP to any message.
Firms' obligations
Law firms that purchase your information are contractually prohibited from reselling or redistributing it. Their access to your details is logged, and exports of your information are watermarked.
Retention
We keep consent records, purchase records, and related communications as long as the law requires us to be able to demonstrate them. You may ask us to delete your information at [help@getmylawyer.today](mailto:help@getmylawyer.today); we will delete what we are not legally required to retain.
One record survives every deletion request: if you told us to stop texting you, we keep a record of that opt-out so we never text you again — deleting it would mean we could forget your STOP and contact you later. That record is a one-way cryptographic fingerprint of your phone number, not the number itself; it cannot be reversed into your number and answers only the question "is this number opted out."
State privacy rights
Depending on your state, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or obtain a copy of your personal information, and to appeal a refusal. Contact [help@getmylawyer.today](mailto:help@getmylawyer.today) to exercise them. _(Counsel: complete per launch-state statute — e.g., UCPA if launching in Utah.)_
Children
Our service is for adults. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18; an intake that self-identifies as a minor is halted.
Changes
When this policy changes, we publish a new dated version at this address. The consent disclosures you actually agree to during intake are separately versioned and immutable — the exact text you saw is preserved with your consent record.
